elcome to the May issue of Australian
Hotelier. We’re well and truly into 2016
now, and many of you will be preparing
your venues for the cold weather, and
even starting to take bookings for EOFY functions.
As for taking the temperature of the industry,
things are definitely heating up, with more hoteliers
becoming vocal about ineffective lockout legislation,
both in New South Wales and in Queensland, and
the damage it is doing and will do to this thriving
industry. With compliance becoming an increasingly
complex aspect of operating a hotel, we turn to the
experts for their advice on the subject on p 18.
Meanwhile, things are looking up in Melbourne,
where CBD hotel real estate is heating up due to
limited supply (see p. 5 for more on this). Elsewhere
in the mag, you’ll find publicans’ favourite beers for
winter (p 22) and how to take advantage of a hot
beverage offering on p 14 – everything you need to
know as the weather gets cooler!
